A Rabbit Hole with Teeth

An Examination of the Dissociative Experience

A Rabit Hole with Teeth-09.png

A 100-page XL artbook exploring the dissociative experience, through a collection of essays, short stories, poems, and visual artworks. It is an examination of what it means to be or become disconnected and detached from reality. The book covers multiple types of dissociation both in illustrations and in the written medium.

Dissociation is a common concept, but one that does not get the attention it deserves. This is especially true when exploring dissociative disorders. Most dissociative disorders are well known, but not well understood. However, I should add that this book is about more than dissociation from a mental-health perspective; it is about all forms of dissociation.

Book Structure

50 Paintings

The book features 50 paintings, all created using Adobe Illustrator (along with a Wacom Tablet). I have chosen to create each visual piece with Adobe Illustrator because I believe that vector images have a glossy, simplistic, inoffensive feeling to them. To me, that captures a lot of what dissociation feels like.

Each painting is representative of how dissociation feels personally to me.

50 Written Passages

This book is made up of 50 distinct pieces of writing, including short stories, essays, and poems. Dissociation is a complex topic, one I believe cannot be expressed purely through one style of writing.

The book contains a plethora of perspectives on the matter, although every perspective is one that I either currently hold, or that I once held in the past.

Types of Dissociation

This book will examine three specific types of dissociation:

Medical Dissociation

Or in other words, dissociative disorders. As somebody who suffers from Depersonalisation/Derealisation, this is be the biggest focus of this section, although other dissociative disorders get explored, too.

Recreational Dissociation

Drug-induced dissociation plays a large role in this book. I draw upon expereinces of ketamine, 3-MeO-PCE, nitrous oxide, and others.

Professional Dissociation

Aspects of human living that explicitly encourage dissociative activity, usually for work or education. Acedemia, and Law are two examples of real-world activity where dissociation is praised. Others are also explored.

It is hard to say when exactly this will be released. At the moment, only one copy exists, but more will be on the way soon.
