Philosophical Counseling
In the near-future, I will be providing philosophical counseling sessions.
What is philosophical counseling?
Philosophical counseling is the age-old tradition of applying philosophical concepts and practices to real-world situations and lives, dating back to ancient times with figures like Epicurus (in the West), Mencius (in the East), and Ptahhotep (in Africa). Philosophers used to help guide people when making important life decisions and provide insights on pressing questions.
At the heart of philosophy is the idea that studying reality is a worthwhile endeavor, and I believe for that to be true, it needs to be practically applied to the lived-experience. Philosophy has a tendency to keep its head in the clouds, forgetting about everyday life, but this is a mistake as it is the lives of everyday individuals who make it such a rich subject.
A philosophical counselor takes their clients from the point there are at in life, and works with them to examine their unique perspectives. Unlike standard psychotherapy or psychiatry, philosophical counseling is not about treating pathologies or defective issues of the mind. Rather, it is about giving individuals the intellectual and creative tools to form a sound understanding of their life, and help them carve out their own philosophical beliefs and narratives.
The reason I studied philosophy at university was because I wanted to explore my own understanding of reality and use that understanding to better myself. I believe that I have, to some extent, done this (although the process of betterment is always ongoing). I wish to now help others do that.
I, as a philosophical counselor, cannot help with clinical issues of mental health (such as depression, OCD, PTSD, bipolar, etc.). I am not trained in psychology or psychoanalysis, and so I do not touch on these topics.
I can help with pressing questions that are causing distress and discomfort, and which you feel you need to look at with further detail and precision. Philosophical counselors discuss a wider array of topics than clinical therapists because philosophy has far larger branches.
What do I specialize in?
Existentialism
Existentialism is the study of life from the human perspective. It focuses on the uniquely human issues that come with human living. It examines questions of autonomy, free choice, meaning, and fulfilment.

Philosophy of Mind
Examinations in consciousness, the human mind, the construction of the mind, subjectivity, expeirence, qualia, intentionality, and identity.
Human Flourishing
Human flourishing is sub-field of exploring what it means to live a fulfilling and satisfying life, and what a person needs to do to flourish in such a way.
Metaphysics
Discussions about the fundementals of reality, such as space, time, causation, free-will, souls, nature, and spirituality.
Religion

Sessions
Sessions are 1 hour and 10 minutes and will happen via Zoom. Within these sessions, I will briefly introduce myself and provide an outline for how the session will play out.
We can either work through something you’ve had on your mind or if you’d prefer we can converse about pretty much any topic which falls under the massive umbrella of philosophy, and I will provide you with any insights which I believe will be fitting to your unique circumstances.
Sessions will have an informal, colloquial, feel to them. This is an open and safe forum.
Pricing
One session costs £45.00 GBP. I accept payment via credit/debit card (via Stripe). Alternatively, I also accept Monero (XMR).
If your economic situation is not ideal, or you are in a position where you cannot afford £45.00 per session, I also provide a limited number of session slots at £10.00. Please only ask for these slots if you genuinely cannot afford the standard rate, and you believe a session will greatly benefit you, there are only a handful of these slots available and I really want them to go to those who need them most.
